You Are Guilty!
Before you brush this off and give it no thought, please stop for a moment and consider that there could be a shred of possibility that this is true.
It does not matter whether you realize it or not. The ruling has already been handed down. You are guilty, you have broken Gods Law. Think of how huge the earth is, and how huge the universe is. Consider the sun, Its so bright we cannot look at it lest we go blind. Now consider that there is a God who created it all, and that is the God who’s Law you are guilty of breaking.
Forget about the god that you imagine in your mind. You know, the one you have made up; how he thinks, how he looks, how he feels about you. God is not what you have imagined Him to be. The True God is more than what you could ever comprehend. He is good and He is just. He is righteous, He is strong, He is infinitely powerful. Now, here is the part you really must grasp and understand: You have broken His Law and He has judged you and found you guilty. And He is angry and His wrath is set to unleash upon you in His due time. You may ask how do I know all of this? The answer is simple and probably to you audacious but no less true, the answer is that God told me.
He told me primarily through His word that many people refer to as the Holy Bible. As you read this I’m sure you may be having thoughts that this isn’t true, that the Bible isn’t true. Or maybe, I’m not a bad person I’m not guilty of anything. Please consider this: Are you 100% sure none of this is true? Or is it possible that you simply don’t want to believe it? Maybe, just maybe your mind is trying any way possible to refute the clear evidence because of fear, because ultimately you really just don’t want to believe it. I’ve been there believe me. Let me tell you that it is true. Allow me to show you. Maybe you have heard of something called the Ten Commandments. Well I won’t give you a history lesson here on them but let me just say the Ten Commandments are a huge deal. This is the moral Law that God gave to us by Moses. Allow me to list them for you.
1. Thou shall have no other gods before me.
2. Thou shalt make thee no graven image neither any similitude of things that are in heaven above neither that are in the earth beneath, nor that are in the waters under the earth.
3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5. Honor thy father and mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
6. Thou shalt not kill.
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery
8. Thou shalt not steal.
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbors wife, nor manservant nor maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey nor any thing that is thy neighbors.
So can you say that you have kept the Law of God? If your still not convinced that you are guilty consider this: Gods standard is much higher than our own. Jesus explains it when He said: If you have ever looked at someone with lust then you have committed adultery in your heart. That means if you have ever looked at a person, a picture or in real life and had even the slightest sexual desire than you are guilty of adultery and have broken the 7th commandment.
Jesus also said: If you have ever been angry with someone without cause, then you have committed murder in your heart. So, there goes number 6.
How about this one: Ever put anything above God? Chose to do something else instead of giving of your time to worship Him? So you can mark number 1 off. Ok so hopefully your getting the point. We could go on and on right down the list. So now let me address your next obvious logical defense. So you may be thinking by now, ok yea I guess I’m guilty but so is everyone else and there are a lot of people worse than me. If that’s the defense you want to go with let me challenge you to do this. Go out on the highway and break the speed limit and let a cop see you do it, now I don’t just mean break it, but really break it. When the cop pulls you over to write you a speeding ticket try that defense with him. See in that moment when your face to face with the Law it doesn’t matter what everyone else has done. It won’t matter that fifty other people were going much faster than you. You are guilty no matter how many others are guilty as well. It’s just you and the Law standing there. Now God is much more just than any police officer and you have done far worse than broken the speed limit in His eyes. So His wrath rests upon you according to the Bible. But…… This is an awesome but. God Himself paid your penalty. God says: You are guilty and the wages of sin is death. In order to satisfy the wages He came as a man to earth as Jesus Christ of Nazereth. He lived a spotless perfect life and never broke the Law. That way the payment of your lawlessness would be worthy and acceptable. Then He went and took the suffering and death of the cross at the hands of the Romans. He cried out as He was about to breath His last: It is accomplished! Meaning He accomplished His mission to save you from the wrath to come. This was a legal transaction. You were guilty and there was nothing you could do. Standing before the judge already condemned just awaiting the punishment of Hell. Then comes Jesus and He pays your fine and satisfies the requirement of justice. Now you can walk out to the courtroom free. And God without compromising His Justice has set you free. Free from sin and death.
But first you must repent of your sins and accept two things: 1. That your are a sinner and guilty deserving of Gods wrath. 2. That Jesus is the Messiah, the son of God and that his payment for you was enough to satisfy your debt. If you truly do that then, you no longer stand guilty but free!! Jesus said: who the Son sets free is free indeed. ( John 8:36) And Jesus will be to you as Savior and Lord. Saving you from the wages of sin, and directing your life as your Lord.
